African Women and Children HIV/AIDS Conference

African Women and Children HIV/AIDS Conference, is a public health conference organized by African Hope Committee Inc., as a call to action for men, women, and children of African descent to fight against the deadly disease that has ravaged the African continent and communities of African descent through out the world. Statistics show that a large African population is affected by HIV/AIDS due to huge disparities in health care services. Recent studies have found that women and children account for the largest growth in illnesses including HIV/AIDS.

Multiple reasons, including lack of proper information, limited English proficiency, lack of primary and preventive health care, fear of screening procedures, cultural differences in disseminating information related to HIV/AIDS, inability to pay for health care, result in the African population and other minority groups not being checked for HIV/AIDS.

African Women and Children HIV/AIDS Conference will be an all effort to educate the African community and other minority groups residing in New York City about this growing peril and to provide them with information that may help alleviate the problem such as access to free and low-cost health care.

African Women and Children HIV/AIDS Conference will be a one-day conference on Saturday, September 4, 2004. Our goal is to:

Build up awareness using public announcements
Distribute over 5000 fliers in the community
Educate African men, women, children and other minority group about HIV/AIDS
Provide information on free access to HIV/AIDS screening
Offer incentives and prizes to Men and Women who participate in HIV/AIDS screening, through our partnerships with health care providers
Help establish a pattern of regular health check-ups
And finally to develop a long-term plan of care

The event will culminate with a dinner followed by an African Fashion Show and entertainment.

Sponsorship: We will work with sponsors to maximize the good will, exposure and charitable value of your support. African Hope Committee Inc., a tax –exempt, 501 (C) (3) organization is coordinating this conference. Charitable contributions will pay for the space, printing of materials, banner, advertising, speakers, food, transportation and other aspect of the event. Sponsors are recognized with logo placement or name of the institutions or corporation on the event flier, public announcements, AHC website and recognition made at the conference.
